Katy Perry Early Life

Katy Perry Biography,Weight, Age, Height, Bio, Wiki,BirthDate,Filmography,Songs

Katy Perry was born Katheryn Hudson in Santa Barbara in 1984 to evangelical pastor parents, Keith and Mary Hudson. During her childhood, Katy took singing and dancing lessons. Her first singing performance was in front of a church congregation in the choir. She actually became interested in singing lessons because her older sister Angela was taking voice lessons and she wanted to do everything her big sister did.

She used to sing her sister and her younger brother David to sleep at night, an activity that led to her nickname, “Katy Bird.” Katy had a sheltered childhood and moved around several times for her parents’ ministry. The children were not allowed to listen to anything but Christian music. Katy’s parents made sure that their friends only listened to Christian music as well. Katy enjoyed herself by going to Christian camps and roller skating on Tuesdays, the rink’s Christian night. Despite her parents’ objectives, Katy’s friends would sneak CDs to Katy so she could listen to pop culture musicians. She was greatly influenced by Alanis Morissette’s album Jagged Little Pill and Freddie Mercury of the band Queen. During her high school years, Katy sang in the choir and performed at the Santa Barbara Theater.

One day during lunch she participated in an impromptu singing match where she was booed. While she was singing in her church, some Nashville producers heard her and liked what they heard. They encouraged Katy to follow her singing dream. Katy dropped out of high school to pursue her dream of being a pop star and received her GED in September 1999. Katy and her mother went to Nashville to see producers in the gospel music industry, many of them acquaintances of the Hudson family. Katy signed with Red Hill Records and produced one album with them, Katy Hudson, with many of the songs written by her. The album was released but only about 200 copies were sold.

Katy record label went bankrupt before it could market Katy’s album. In search of a new record label, Katy signed with Island Def Jam, and when they let her go, she signed with Columbia Records. She also wanted to distance herself from her first album that did not sell.

While she was trying to make it as an artist, she took odd jobs to make ends meet, including a job at a music publisher. She had to sit in a cubicle and listen to other people’s music and critique it. Katy realized that she could make it in the music industry because her music and style were different than anything she was hearing.

He tried to convince executive Jason Flom that Katy needed to be signed to the record label. After Anokute and Flom saw a performance in a nightclub, Flom was not impressed, but Anokute still assured Flom that Katy had an energetic, different style and would succeed.

Katy Perry In 2007

She has been soaring to the top ever since. Katy Perry’s first single, “Ur So Gay,” from her album One of the Boys was released in November 2007. This brought little notoriety to Katy. The next single, “I Kissed a Girl,” was the song that made people sit up and take notice.

The single sold 1.3 million downloads. The album sold 47,000 copies in the first week it was released. By the end of 2008, the album had reached platinum status with more than a million copies sold. With the success of the album came invitations and nominations for top award shows. She also set out on her first tour to promote herself, the Hello Katy Tour. She also began to collaborate with other pop stars, such as Timbaland and Snoop Dogg.

It contained popular songs such as “California Gurls,” “Waking Up in Vegas,” and “Firework.” In its first week, the Teenage Dream album sold more than 192,000 copies. By 2011, the album had reached platinum status. Katy tied with a record set by Michael Jackson: both had five number-one singles from the same album.

Jackson’s singles were from his album Bad. Katy’s album Teenage Dream had the five singles, which were “Last Friday Night,” “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “E.T.,” and “Firework.” With this latest release, Katy set off on her California Dreams tour, a tour that started in Portugal in February 2011 and ended in Dublin in November 2011.

The concerts were full of candy-covered sets and also used a technique called smell-o-vision. Katy made many costumes changes throughout the show. She did have to cancel two shows in Chicago and Minneapolis because she fell ill with food poisoning and severe dehydration. Katy’s costumes were flamboyant and outlandish but they are what keep the fans interested. She has used whipped cream cans that actually squirted whipped cream in one of her acts.
She has had guest spots and cameos on several television shows, including Wildfire, The Young and the Restless, and How I Met Your Mother. After her enormous musical success, she was invited to the popular talent shows American Idol and Britain’s The X Factor. She was asked to appear on The Simpsons and Sesame Street. Her film credits include being Smurfette in the movie The Smurfs, which was released in the summer of 2011. Katy’s personal life has been in the press frequently as she has been busy making a name for herself in the music industry. In 2008 she dated Gym Class Heroes band member Travis McCoy. This was a short-lived relationship that ended in 2009.

In September of 2009, Katy began dating actor Russell Brand. Despite Brand’s past, Katy’s parents enjoy Brand and could not be happier for their daughter.

Brand and Katy were married on October 23, 2010. Angela, Katy’s sister, was the maid of honor. Katy flew her whole family to India for a private affair. Katy and Brand decided not to sell their wedding pictures to the media to keep their wedding day private and spiritual. Katy shared images from her October wedding at the Grammys.

While she sang “Not Like the Movies,” the audience was treated to images of her wedding on a white backdrop. The first image was of Katy sharing a kiss with her new husband Brad. Once the slideshow was completed, she sang “Teenage Dream” while dancers did a musical number across the stage. Besides the big reveal of her never-before-seen wedding pictures, Katy heralded her California Dreams tour, which she was headed on after the Grammys.

She has had disagreements with other musicians about her song lyrics, and things she has said have been misconstrued in the press. Her songs “I Kissed a Girl” and “Ur So Gay” created a backlash from church groups and the gay and lesbian community. Churches across the world believed the songs promoted homosexuality, and homosexuality is considered a sin and should not be condoned.

The gay and lesbian community thought Katy was poking fun at their lifestyle. They also believed she did not know what she was talking about because she is not gay. Katy’s style of dress has always been a topic of controversy, as many believe she dresses too provocatively. When she was invited on Sesame Street to do a skit about opposites with Elmo to the tune of her song “Hot N Cold,” there was the uproar that the wedding dress she was wearing was showing too much cleavage. After the video was leaked on YouTube, parents complained that the segment was too risque for a children’s show.

The skit never aired on television. Katy has used her talents to give back to the community as well. She supports HIV/AIDS research and breast cancer awareness. Katy Perry has also contributed to relief in Japan and Australia with the purchase of wands from her tour shows. Katy has had a variety of charity giveaways on her Web site. Katy Perry has participated in the program Tickets-for-Charity, in which a portion of all ticket sales goes to a charity of the buyer’s choosing.

Katy has overcome many obstacles to be the pop star she is today. She realizes her fans are her biggest asset in becoming a success. She continues to put energy into her albums and tours to keep her followers coming back.
